Hoping for the simplest solution of doing a few more cold starts, but also wondering if I should be looking into any other things that might be preventing this from clearing. After it had that data logged, the R32 passed smog check just fine. So there was nothing mechanically wrong, it's just that the ECU did not have enough data for smog test to check against. I ended up having to do this for 5-6 days before enough data had been logged so that the smog check could be run (I also drove it around a bit, but not more than 10-20 miles total). The techs at the smog place told me to start the car up in the morning while it's still cool, and let it idle until you hear the secondary air system kick on (it sounds pretty much like a hair dryer when it kicks on, and stays on for just a few seconds). It is that data that the smog checks, so without it the smog check can't run and throws that "Not Ready" response. P0410 code definition Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction What the P0410. #SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM MONITOR UPDATE#I recently had someone message me about how I solved this issue, so I wanted to post an update here for anyone else who comes across this thread. #SECONDARY AIR SYSTEM MONITOR MOD#The only mod the car has that might affect this is the ECS flapper switch. Car passed all other items of smog test, and does not have check engine light on (though VCDS does show some fault codes that don't seem directly related to the secondary air system, but I can post if they might shed light on issue). Cruising ~50 miles on the highway cleared the Catalyst issue, but the Secondary Air System one is still lingering even after several cold starts (firing up the car once in the morning and once in the evening over a few days). The engine was outfitted with a secondary air injection system and several thermocouples to measure exhaust stream temperature. Apparently these are common error codes with cars that have been sitting/in storage or otherwise not driven too much, which was the case with this R as the previous owner did not drive the car a whole lot (few times a month for a few miles around town). Had an issue with "OBDII Monitors Not Ready" listing "Catalyst" and "Secondary Air System" issues that caused it to fail the smog test. The PCM will command the check engine light to illuminate and store a DTC if the fault occurs during 2 drive cycles.Hey all! Also fuel tank pressure does not change in very cold climates, so pressure monitor will not change. Answer P1413 Secondary Air Injection System Monitor Circuit Low Detailed Description The secondary air injection system monitor circuit is low, indicating the electrical AIR pump is off although the electrical AIR pump was commanded on by the PCM. The PCM will successfully complete the secondary AIR system monitor if the proper voltage signal is detected from the upstream oxygen sensor. The active secondary air system usually consists of an electric pump (see figure), the control relay, a pneumatic control valve, and a combination valve. Reason is secondary system needs 40 seconds to set to 'ready' in hot climates air pump may only operate 30 seconds so it will never set. In order for the PCM to enable the secondary AIR system monitor the check engine light has to be commanded off, continuous monitors and the oxygen sensor monitor must have been successfully completed. may not fall on them since the system was indeed faulted by those things replaced. As with most other monitored OBD II systems all AIR electrical components are checked for electrical and rationality faults during continuous monitoring. This is the Secondary Air Injection Monitor part of the drive cycle. If the monitor does not successfully execute on cold start up, the PCM can force the monitor to run during normal idling conditions. The monitor usually runs on the start up of a cold engine, conditions permitting. The PCM uses the signal from the upstream oxygen sensor to detect the presence of extra air in the exhaust manifold supplied by the AIR system. This extra air helps heat the catalytic converter quickly when the engine is first started. When vehicles are equipped, the secondary AIR system monitor allows the PCM to ensure that extra air is being delivered to the exhaust system during cold engine operating conditions.
